Summary
Once Lakan'd brought back all her apothecary tools, Maomao wasted no time diving into another experiment. This time involving the poison of an abandoned snake, found in a box, lodged between her herbs and grinding wheel. Until, the freak strategist caught her right in the act. The freak made a decision: she could no longer experiment unless she found a subject other than herself.
Maomao didn’t want a subject, didn’t need one.
She was more than happy to play the role of the subject and the scientist. But when the freak found someone who was willing to endure the pricks and burns of Maomao’s experimentation, she was caught up between knowing her place in society or letting her intellectual curiosity run free.

The van jerked to a sudden stop. You slammed against the wall again, heart hammering. Shit.
“Do something!” you said to Rafayel, eyes flickering toward where the doors would open.
“Do what?” he asked. “If they want to kill us, they’re going to kill us. There’s nothing we can—”
The sliding door rattled, scraping against the frame. Cold air rushed in.
Rafayel yelped and ducked behind you.
“Kill her first!” he screamed.
“Excuse me?" you said.
Rafayel managed to single-handedly ruin your entire day. First, there was his stupid billboard and his stupid nipple staring at you from across the street. Then, his ridiculous bodyguard tries to stop you from doing your job at The Arc. Guess the bodyguard only existed to get in the way, apparently, because he was nowhere to be found when it mattered! Since here you were, kidnapped!
