“You seem to be feeling better, at the very least,” Mydei said, relief coating his tone. “You’re certain you don’t remember anything at all? No idea how you ended up here?”
“Mm, nope!” Phainon said again. “All I remember is you, Mydei.”
“That’s probably not good,” Mydei said. Then, “I’ll put out some calls and talk to the authorities to see if anyone’s missing you, but with how small Aedes Elysiae is, I wouldn’t hold my breath.”
A smile brightened up Phainon’s face at the words, as if that was what he’d been waiting for. The way it stretched unnaturally against his face made Mydei’s hackles rise, almost instinctively.
“Where else would I go?” He asked curiously, his eyes falling shut. “I’m already home”
Or, Mydei is almost certain the amnesiac man he found in his cafe is also the monstrous eldritch horror living in the forest behind his house. He just can’t prove it.
