Summary
Whatever it was, the little voice in his head, it told him to go home.
What he’ll find home is a different story. A vast quiet, thick and swathing. A dark hush over the rooms, the kitchen, nothing but the scraping of mice and the stray cat Notkin had brought in. An absence, acute, of Isidor, still lingering in the air.
And somewhere upstairs, far and close, in a room sealed tightly shut, another man sleeping.
Or: a breaking point.

Summary
He was about to walk into a room of strangers, read for a role he knew nothing about in a play he knew nothing about—during their first rehearsal, nonetheless—all because some 19 year old told him to. Artemy’s breath caught in his throat. Who did he think he was? He was close to just turning around, leaving and pretending none of this ever happened.
Artemy didn’t have long to weigh his options, however, as the door in front of him flung open to reveal a short man with the wildest hair and fashion sense Artemy had ever seen. The man squinted at him for a brief second before his face brightened and he jabbed a finger into Artemy’s chest.

Summary
“What?” Daniil demands, frowning. Without responding, Burakh reaches over to brush his fingers through Daniil’s hair.
“You had leaves on you,” Burakh says, looking stupid and stunned in the dying sunlight.
“Indeed,” says Daniil, feeling stupid and stunned himself.

For an intelligent person, Daniil is decidedly unobservant.
