    Summary

It’s Friday, December 1st, 2006, the first time.

She’s there when Dani arrives at the café — and there she remains when Dani exits after her pre-work Full English, sitting next to the entrance with her head down, knees drawn up to her chest and a bottle of Stella Artois in one hand at the grand hour of nine o’clock in the morning. The day-drinking isn’t the only thing that catches Dani’s eye; the total lack of appropriate clothing for the middle of Great British winter more so gives her pause. She can’t imagine a single Blondie t-shirt with an open flannel button-up and denim cut-off shorts is a terribly comfortable outfit in one-degree-Celsius weather.

    So, Dani speaks up.

(Or: the one where Jamie’s just got out of prison and Dani’s too kind for her own good.)

    Summary

392 days, it’s been, of cowering away from reflections for the sake of everyone but her, and Dani Clayton is tired.

She is tired of living — if you can even call it that — only to lose grip on reality more and more every day, clinging frantically to the few memories she has that aren’t lakes and chests and missing daughters.

    [ — ]

June 2000. Dani wakes up paralysed.
    This is it, then.
