The House of Hades is quick to wake from its long slumber, but slow to shake the sleep from its eyes as the nightmare overstays its welcome.
Thanatos hovers at the balustrade watching the waters of the Styx ebb slowly past, still sullied with gold.
It is all wrong.
Wrong, the gold of the river; wrong, the air that still tastes of change.
Time cannot be stopped, but he could be almost convinced otherwise, what with the way the House hangs in its state of disarray, the underworld frozen. And, though Time cannot be stopped, it would seem that Death can.or: in the aftermath of the hades 2 ending, thanatos finds himself temporarily out of work. unsurprisingly, as the incarnation of his job, he doesn't take well to unemployment.

Actually in tears. I knew it would end with her going back down but to have Orpheus join her is so insanely bittersweet. Imagine the two of them sing the song and both Persephone and Hades hear it. This concept is everything to me.

“I’ve heard enough about the Fates,” Zagreus snapped, and none of them spoke for a while after that.
Thanatos cupped Zagreus’ jaw, eyelashes fluttering like whispers as his golden eyes opened. “Well, they were never my favorite siblings.”

Summary
Zagreus should have expected this to happen. He and Thanatos have been hurtling towards this point for a long time. Thanatos approaches Zagreus, wanting to turn their relationship into something more, but Zagreus refuses to let his impulses cost him the dear friend he just got back. Even if he loves him.
