“Upstairs in my bed. I don’t need to sleep tonight, and she’s human. I thought she might not be, at first…”
He trailed off, embarrassed by his suspicions. Aziraphale didn’t seem to notice. “She’s more than human.”
Crowley looked at him. “I thought I felt a flicker—this is going to sound mad, but I thought she performed those miracles, or whatever they were, in the park. It certainly wasn’t the archangel twins, and it wasn’t me. But she’s not an angel.” It went without saying that she wasn’t a demon.
Aziraphale’s face was doing something complicated. Trying to decide what to reveal, he guessed. He tried to keep any annoyance from his expression and was relieved when the angel decided on the truth. “She’s the Daughter of God, Crowley.”
Crowley’s mind blanked. Whatever he had suspected, his thoughts had never gone near this.
