Summary
Thorn Princess sets her jaw. “Stop messing with me.”
“I’m not. I asked you a question first.”
I should just kill him.
Somewhere behind her, cold fingers trail over her hand. They graze the skin on her palm, briefly fluttering over her fingers before they seize her wrist.
A voice breathes into her ear; a low, velveteen drawl that sends a shiver down her spine.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
Thorn Princess thought she knew everything. The reason why she fights. The reason why she dons a mask and stains her hands with blood.
But when the threads of her life become interwoven with his, things change - and suddenly, she finds herself wanting much more than she ever thought she would.

His wife stands before him in the slanting moonlight of the room. She is the picture of grace and beauty, of kindness and warmness accumulated in one soul as she smiles at him.
Longing crashes against his ribs. His thoughts echo in his mind, so clearly and without any trace of hesitation that it nearly terrifies him: I don’t want to leave you.
He realises it, then - or perhaps he’s known all along - in the stillness of their living room, his wife incandescent in the silver of the moonlight; her hair a velvet night sky and her eyes twinkling jewels of constellations that he yearns to get lost in, that she is the person he loves.
The person he can’t have.
