Rising up through the pink blossoms at the base of the hill, gray and ugly and looking completely out of place in the tranquil forest. Parrot stands there, dumbfounded for just a moment before he realizes, oh. The fires.
It seems the fires he started to slow their attackers down have spread, caught on to petals and wood alike. They aren’t in danger, but he can’t help but feel a little bad. The forest was so pretty, and now it’s burning because he got distracted and had to correct with desperation and carelessness.
Something is already itching at the back of Parrot’s mind when the smell hits him.
It’s the smell of vanilla from the blossoms coupled with the rising smoke. The smell of burning cherry wood and lingering gunpowder in the air."

Now Jon was even more confused. He stepped farther into the break room, letting the door swing shut behind him. "We have a kettle, Martin. An electric kettle. You don't need to set up a burner to--wait, is that...are you making masala chai?"
"Yeah," Martin admitted sheepishly. "I wanted to surprise you, and I figured this would be nice since the black tea has caffeine in it, and you looked really tired." His eyes grew wide, and he immediately tried to backpedal. "I mean, not in a bad way, but I know you've been staying late, and I didn't want to use the kettle because the store-bought stuff never gets the spices right, at least not here, and I just figured it's sort of, I don't know, warming? I probably should have asked if you even like chai before I started making this. But you don't have to drink it if you don't, I can make Earl Grey or-"
"I do." Jon cut him off.
"You...what?"
"I drink chai." God, did he have to sound like a dumbfounded robot?
"Oh." Martin blinked. "Then, um, it's almost ready."OR
Martin makes masala chai to surprise Jon, and Jon is head over heels.
