Shelby looks at the text for a long time. She should go down there. She should go down there and just look at Toni and -
And what? Hope Toni asks her out? Stand there until she does? She can’t ask Toni out herself. What if Martha was completely wrong? She’d never survive the embarrassment of that rejection.
Okay, so that plan might not work. Shelby stares at her laptop in front of her. Without even thinking, she picks up her water bottle and holds it above the keyboard.
Just as she’s about to tilt it and absolutely destroy her laptop, she thinks, “They’re not going to be able to fix that, dumbass.”
So she sets the water bottle back down.

Martha has a bad habit of disappearing into her relationships, but this time she’s gone longer than usual, and Shelby is the only other person that knows her well enough to be scared.
