If Prince Wilhelm’s story was a happy one, this would only be a bump in the road to joy. In moments, his knight in shining armor would come to sweep him up in a fantasy of love and perfection. Maybe his knight would climb up to his window, carrying Wilhelm down from his metaphorical tower and whisking him away from his royal dungeon.

Summary
On a cold night during his first semester at Hillerska, Wilhelm spread his arms on a football field during the middle of the night. He swam through the dark like the tide was low, as though there was nothing that could harm him.
Later, as Wilhelm stumbled through the dark with Simon by his side, he would say, “I’m not afraid.”
“It’s you,” he said. “It’s you, you know?” In the morning, Wilhelm would look back on the night and realize that he never felt uncomfortable. He never felt the weight on his chest increase as the sky darkened; he didn’t tuck his chin into his chest as he walked through the cool blackness.

This was the moment that he would deny it. He would clutch the arms of the chair, throw a sympathetic face at the camera, and then he would go on a tangent about everyone should be who they are, but the Crown Prince isn’t like that. The interview would end shortly after, and Wilhelm would be his nation’s largest liar.
“It was me,” he said.

He was met with silence and for a moment Wilhelm was afraid to meet Simon’s eyes as he had expected to cross that dark abyss when he looked. But, it wasn’t there. It instead had been replaced by a curious glint. It practically gave him whiplash.
“What’d you have to offer?” he inquired, his own voice slightly nervous.
