Dean's having a great day - the spirit terrorizing the little town goes down easy (but not so easy it's boring), the people are saved, and Sam's laughing at his dumbass jokes instead of flinching at things Dean can't see. It all makes his heart ache for simpler times, and for the first time in what feels like ages, he lets himself hope. That is, until Sam asks him on clarification on some childhood memories.

Another night, they'd rest. Sam wasn't fit to be out in the field. By the time John had spotted a motel by its lit neon sign, a beacon in the night, an acute smell had filled the Impala that nearly suffocated him. It was sweet like honey, cloying and sticking to the roof of his mouth. Beneath that sweetness– or rather, entangled with that sweetness– was Sam. Discerningly Sam. The scents danced together, only promising one thing.

From a prompt: "Early season 6, post "You Can't Handle The Truth." Both brothers are injured somehow. Dean's injuries are obvious and Soulless!Sam tends to them, much to Dean's chagrin. Soulless!Sam does not acknowledge his own - maybe he's unenthusiastic about accepting treatment from the guy who pulped his face so recently, maybe he just doesn't like to acknowledge weakness, maybe he legit doesn't care. Either way, they turn out to be reasonably problematic not long after and require care."
