"How did you even learn to draw?" Kaveh asks another day, observing another drawing closely (one where he seemed to be passionately talking about something again).
"Hm? I just flipped through a book on anatomy and got the hang of it."
. . . Why did Kaveh even bother? Alhaitham was probably the kind of monster who could draw a perfect side profile without lifting the pencil from the sheet even once.
Kaveh learns that Alhaitham liked to draw.
Or . . . he resorted to it, for reasons Kaveh would have to piece together over pages and pages of works created with the cost of a fraction of his dignity. Hopefully, he gets his answers, before the humiliation gets to him.

Summary
It was a two-to-three weeks' journey from Sumeru to Chenyu Vale's Yilong Wharf, where Kaveh was to meet a potential supplier. Alhaitham meant to travel further inland, supposedly to acquire some documents and books he had commissioned a scholar to restore, but really because it had been too many months since his feet had wandered past Sumeru's borders. Kaveh and Alhaitham's schedules and destinations had more-or-less aligned, and so Kaveh had asked, again and again, if they could travel together.
("To save cost?"
"What kind of image do you have of me in your heart!? No, not just to save cost, can't you see I want to travel with you—!?")
For some reason, Alhaitham had at last given in to Kaveh's ceaseless requests.
Kaveh and Alhaitham travel to Chenyu Vale together.

Summary
“You’re perfect, Kaveh.” Alhaitham is breathless when he says it, as if he’s struggling to breathe, as if his lungs have decided to check out for the evening. They must have, because his heart has taken full reign, beating wildly enough in his chest to make up for the lost air, and Kaveh is to blame.
Kaveh’s skin burns bright. Heat spills from his cheeks, down his neck, dripping onto his chest, and he looks away, but that does not stop Alhaitham from devouring him with his eyes, his hands, his lips. “Says you,” Kaveh counters, yet the effort is fruitless.
“Yes, says me. I am seldomly wrong, Kaveh, and I am not wrong now.
“Flattery will get you no—”
Alhaitham silences him with a kiss. It's all heat and passion and salt. Hunger and desperation and devouring. Flattery will get him nowhere for he has nowhere to go. He’s right where he wants to be.
