“The simplest explanation is often the right one,” Dustin says. “Do you know your mom’s birthday?”
“Duh,” Steve says. “What, do you think I’m a bad son or something?”
“No, not her,” Dustin says. “I’m talking about your bio mom. Your dad’s sister.”
“Oh.” Steve’s quiet for a moment, but—well. Yes, he does know her birthday, too. “Her birthday—it was, um. March nineteenth, I think. That’s what my dad said.”
Dustin puts his hand on the handle. Steve stands up from the desk and Robin gets up, too.
He presses down. There’s no air in the room as the safe opens.
“Honestly? I can’t believe that worked,” Dustin says, and Steve can’t help the desperate giggle that bubbles up inside of him, even as Dustin pulls out the first folder—a manila green file tab, with the neat label on the side reading out “HAWKINS NATIONAL LABORATORY."

Eddie frowned and his head swivelled around when he heard the shout. Whoever that was, they didn’t sound happy.
He took a drag of his cigarette, before dropping it to the ground, scrubbing it with his foot, and started to move. Leaving behind the building’s shadow as he made his way further out into the parking lot, shifting between the parked cars of the Hideout as he followed the sound of angry voices.
He paused as he came around the side of a car, his surprise at the scene in front of him making him freeze, Steve Harrington was possibly the last person he expected to see in the Hideout’s parking lot at 11pm.

Summary
For Steve, things never went according to plan. He had never thought he’d be graduating in ‘86, the same year as Robin and Nancy, a year after be was supposed to. But he also never planned on letting anyone find out that he’s one of the kids from Hawkins’ Lab, that he’s like Eleven.
But now he’s spending his lunchbreaks with the Hellfire Club and finds himself befriending Eddie “The Freak” Munson. And maybe he also has a tiny crush on Munson, not that he’d ever admit that to anyone.
Hawkins being Hawkins, a year can never be complete without another threat from the Upside Down, and if there was one thing Steve had definitely not planned for, it was Eddie getting dragged into the whole mess alongside the rest them.OR: Steve is Seven and failed his classes causing him to have to repeat his last year of Highschool. He and Eddie become friends and maybe something more but then Vecna attacks and Eddie is pulled into a part of Steve’s life he never wanted him to be a part of.
