when george is awoken on the morning of november 1st, it’s not due to warm arms wrapped around his waist and a face nuzzled into his neck, much like how it normally is. no, instead he wakes up to a cold bed, a very prominent smell of bacon, and maybe a hint of something burning.

if you told george that by the end of tonight he’d be sitting with cuts on his face, a bloody nose, and a black eye after getting into a nasty fight, he would’ve laughed in your face and called you insane.
but sometimes life isn’t life without a little bit of insanity.
in his defense, he tried to be nice. he tried to walk away. but sometimes people just don’t know how to shut the fuck up.

Summary
before dream can process what’s happening, there’s arms wrapping around his middle and a face nuzzling itself into his chest, and oh, george is hugging him.
he quickly returns the embrace, circling his arms securely around george’s shoulders and pulling him in. george lets out a sigh, and dream can feel the way his breath grazes the skin of his neck. goosebumps rise all over his body, and he refrains from shivering.
“thanks for takin’ care of me,” george mumbles into the fabric of dream’s sweater. “for being here.”
“of course,” dream replies, pressing a faint kiss into george’s hair. “‘m always here for you. love you.”
“mmm,” george pulls back slightly to peer up at dream, locking him in place with his gaze. “me too.”
dream grins so hard he thinks his face will rip in half.

george gets sick and dream takes care of him like the whipped man he is.

Summary
they settle back into the couch again, and everything is fine.
until dream decides to lean his head on george’s shoulder.
it shouldn’t be overwhelming. it shouldn’t, because dream has done it more times than george can count, and it’s such a simple, subtle gesture. it should mean nothing. instead, it makes george feel like a snake has nested itself inside his body, wrapping itself tightly around his heart and squeezing until he’s suffocating while the reptile prepares to sink its venomous fangs into tender flesh, tearing george apart from the inside out.
he can’t do this today. he really, really can’t.
or…
george is stupidly in love with dream and he fails miserably at trying to keep his emotions at bay.

he reaches a hand out to brush dream’s hair back, giving him a soft kiss on his forehead. dream inhales deeply, and before george knows it, sleepy green eyes are fluttering open to peer up at him. he smiles softly at the tired boy, whose lips also curl up in return.
“hi,” dream says, his voice gravelly with sleep. god, george missed that voice.

george gets home from the bahamas late at night, and dream is asleep.
