Summary
Mike jerks awake, sobbing and struggling to fill his lungs as tears flow down, wetting his face. He squeezes his eyes tight and pushes the heel of his hands into them to try and get it to stop. He can’t breathe.
His heart aches. Everything hurts, and there is nothing he can do to make it stop. His grief is never-ending and all-consuming. He can't imagine moving forward now that El's gone.
Through his own grief, Will somehow always finds a way to be there for him. Little by little, they go from crazy to grief-ridden to something next to normal. And maybe at the end of it all, learn to take more than just comfort in each other.

"Who knew Prongs would put up such a fight just to see one girl" Sirius said turning "Alright there Evans?" he smiled just noticing that she was there. "I'm fine, whats wrong with Potter this time?" Lily asked just then James flailed his arms in an attempt to escape and had accidentally slapped Peter. "Isla Livingston slipped Prongs some strong love potion, he's gone mad for her," Remus said walking up to the end of Lily's bed.
Lily felt her eyes widen in surprise causing them to laugh. That took some serious guts, not only was it hard and against the rules to make and give someone a love potion, but James was also Head Boy. "Well, I didn't know there were girls that desperate, especially for Potter" Lily teased.

Or James gets fed a love potion and Lily comes to terms with a few things as he's blabbing on about another girl.

Mike’s fingers curl slightly into Will’s jacket, instinctive and protective. “I’ll stay with him,” Mike says immediately, not even looking at Hopper this time. “The whole time.”
El nods. She doesn’t question it, like she knows that’s where he’s always been meant to be. Will exhales slowly, then looks at Mike. “You don’t have to—” he starts.
“I know,” Mike says quietly. “But I want to.”
or; Mike stays with Will in the Upside Down as the group splits, and when Will faces danger in the church where they're hiding, Mike realizes this is his final chance to bring Will back.

“I’m coming with you,” Will says immediately. “I’ll find a way. I won’t let you go alone.”
Mike’s expression hardens. For a split second, it looks like his breath gets stuck somewhere in his chest, his lungs refusing to move. His shoulders square, his posture going rigid beneath the armor as Will’s words sink in. But he isn’t angry, not really.
“No. You can’t.”
“You don’t get to decide that for me,” Will snaps, his grip tightening unconsciously at the edge of Mike’s armor.
“And you don’t get to make me weaker,” Mike fires back before he can stop himself.
or; Will panics the very moment Mike tells him that Vecna has returned; determined, Will wants to follow him into battle, only to discover that it is his bond with the paladin himself that prevents him from fighting at his side.

Summary
I wrote this at like 3:00am based on a dream I had. So.
.Mike was touchy, it was just in his nature.
Maybe that's why, when Mike reached out, hands cupping his own, leaning in close, a murmur of “I miss you, Will. I miss us,” all Will did was squeeze back, the way he always had.
It started off the same as always, something unintentional that Will could brush off, accident touches that slowly grew into something friendly, platonic, normal. The occasional nudge of an elbow to his side, a long look and a hand reaching out to grip his shoulder. Simple. Friendly.
But now?
Now Mike couldn't seem to be able to keep his hands off of him.
It was driving Will crazy.

“Don't,” Will warns, his voice trembling. “He’s good to me. He doesn't look at me like I’m broken, Mike. He doesn't look at me and see a monster or a victim. He just sees me.” Will huffs as he wipes a tear from his cheek.
“And that’s enough for you?” Mike’s voice drops to a whisper, his eyes glassy and fierce. “Just being ‘seen’ by some stranger who doesn't know a thing about you? He doesn't know what you’ve been through. He doesn't know what it’s like to lose everything. He just sees the version of you that’s easy to love,” Mike bites out, angry and vengeful.
Will flinches as if Mike had slapped him. The anger drains out of him, replaced by a raw, aching hurt. “Fuck you, Mike. Maybe I want to be easy to love. Did you ever think of that? Maybe I’m tired of being difficult.”Or, A year after the party goes their separate ways, Mike visits Will, only to find he's moved on.
