Summary
The life of a ninja is a dangerous one, doubly so if you belong to one of the lesser, smaller villages. When Waterfall is overrun by Rock, young Chūnin Umino Iruka is tasked to flee to Fire Country with his village's two most precious assets; their young prince, Shibuki, and the jinchūriki of the Shichibi, Fū. He's hardly surprised when Fire allows them to citizenship - the draw of a second jinchūriki is a strong incentive. Summary
Ghost fought the sudden urge to just slam his door in the kid’s face. He crossed his arms and leaned against his doorframe, silently watching the recruit for a few moments just to see if he'd squirm. The recruit did so beautifully, swallowing heavily and shifting on his feet once again as he waited for Ghost’s response.
His nerves couldn’t be attested to just asking for his supervisor’s feedback, even if that supervisor was Ghost. He had to be holding something back.
“Elaborate,” Ghost ordered.
His recruit’s eyes widened fractionally, mouth dropping open before snapping shut again. “Um,” he stumbled nervously, looking more skittish than before. “I was really, um, wondering if there was anything I could do to make sure my talents are… noticed.”
Apprehensively, he looked Ghost in the eyes for the first time and added a more emphasized, “Anything I could do for you, I mean,” breathily, eyes flitting over the length of Ghost’s body before racing back up to meet his gaze.

Summary
Soap is a PhD student, doing his research in Antarctica on the behaviors and hunting habits of leopard seals. During his expedition, he becomes obsessed with a leucistic seal, who he's taken to calling Ghost.
His attempts at tagging Ghost for tracking purposes have all failed, leaving Soap frustrated, but determined to try again. He won't stop until he gets the data he needs for his dissertation.
At the same time, Soap is stuck in an escalating, heated flirting match with a hydroponics employee at another base. It's foolish to form romantic relationships with someone he knows will vanish from his life once their expeditions are over, but there's something fascinating about this man that he can't ignore.
