Summary
Pain stabbed at him everywhere and his stomach did flips as the elevator plummeted down faster than it was built to. Sending Ben further and further away from the dilophosauruses. And away from Kenji.
Finally the elevator hit the bottom, bouncing back up again slightly. Ben crumpled to the floor, clutching where the thagomizer was still embedded in his body. As quickly as he could, he got back up to his feet and frantically pushed the control panel even though it had gone dark when Kenji shocked it.
Despite his efforts, the elevator didn’t budge. It seemed happy to stay still and dead. But Ben was not. His side protested furiously as he screamed and pounded on the walls, but he wasn’t done, not yet.

Effie leans towards the microphone. “Peeta Mellark,” she says in her screechy voice.
Katniss lets out a breath of relief. Peeta looks down before taking a step forward. Her breath catches again.
“I volunteer as tribute,” Haymitch finally says.
Peeta freezes, glancing back at his mentor.
“What?” Effie asks.
“I volunteer as tribute,” Haymitch repeats loudly.
He steps forward out of the pen but Peeta catches him by the sleeve. “What are you doing?” he hisses.
Haymitch gives a tiny shrug. “You can’t stop me.”
What would happen if Haymitch was the one in the 75th Annual Hunger Games?

Finn stopped in his tracks. He glanced around and spotted where it was coming from. The one outside the grocery store, with flimsy tape making an “x” over the box. He looked at Gwen. That had become his new routine every time he heard a phone ring. She shook her head. She’d heard it once, not since then, but it didn’t mean she never would again.
Gwen tugged on his arm when he tried to keep walking.
“It’s nothing, Gwen.” He shrugged her arm off and took a few steps forward but she didn’t follow.
“What if you answered it?” she asked, still not moving.

“I don’t know,” says Simon. “I don’t even know where we’re going, they won’t tell me.” He buries his face in his knees and arms again, and Grace hears something that sounds suspiciously like a sob. Maybe Simon’s eyeballs were sweating too.
“You have to promise you’ll come back,” Grace demands, his own lower lip trembling. "Pinky promise!" He jabs his pinky into Simon’s cheek and pokes him with it until Simon looks up.
Simon’s eyes are red-rimmed, but Grace’s glad that he’s managed to surprise just the tiniest smile from him. “I’m not pinky promising, that shit’s for babies,” he says, eyeing Grace’s extended pinky with mock disdain.
“Then how am I supposed to know you’ll keep your promise?” Grace shoots back.
“We gotta seal the deal with something else,” Simon says seriously.

“Guys?” a trembling voice came from the armchair. Reggie was shaking, staring at his hands with wide eyes filled with tears. His shoulders were hunched over in a way Reggie’s never were, muscles tense, braced for pain.
Then he was hit with a jolt. Which would have been normal, except...
It only happened to him. The terrible force of it sent him to the ground from where he was leaning against the chair, while both Luke and Alex stood unharmed. Unaffected, while their bandmate fell writhing to the ground.
It took a split second for the absence of pain to sink in and panic for their friend to take over.
