“Guys!” Spider-Woman shouts, interrupting them. “Can you answer Morales’ question? Is there another way?”
Peter takes a breath, and shakes his head. “We’ve been trying—and we’ll keep trying. But this is our best bet. At the very least it might buy us time to find a solution. So,” he says with a raise of his eyebrows. “Miles Morales? Meet Gwen Stacy. Gwen Stacy—Miles Morales.”
There’s no proper way to describe the tension as the two face one another. It’s thick and anxious and Miles is surprised one of them hasn’t run from the room to escape it. He tries to smile, but he’s sure it looks more like a grimace. How can it not, with the news they’ve just gotten? But he’s a realist. The situation is what it is, and Miles can’t think of anything they have to lose. So the first time he says his future wife’s name, it’s in a shitty proposal.
“Well Gwen Stacy, what do you say? Will you marry me?”
