He doesn't know how it's possible - lying on the snow-covered grounds, staring up at a bleak, slate sky - but he's breathing, he's alive, there's no sword protruding from his chest and the taste of blood in his mouth. He doesn't know if this was some cruel afterlife or if the Astrals were raring for another joke. All he knows is that he's alive and he wants to go home, even when home now blurs into a whiskey-colored smile disappearing into the pastel horizons.
(Noctis wakes up in an icy tundra and decides that the gods can go fuck themselves).
