Summary
[CW: Homophobic slurs; Atheism] Sunny and Kel are teenage boys with enough emotional baggage to fill all the overhead compartments of a 747. They would do well to unpack it together, but haven't spoken in years despite being neighbors. It's easier not to dredge up the past, after all. But Kel gets a rude awakening on the first day of summer vacation telling him that as far as he and Sunny are concerned, it's now or never. Will the strength of their old bonds finally compel them to start speaking again? And will they discover something deeper than friendship as they dig through their shared trauma together?
Canonically, Kel repeatedly called Sunny before THREE DAYS LEFT, but Sunny ignored his calls.
But what if he didn't? Find out in this story.
This fic will focus on Sunny and Kel, but other characters will be introduced and play meaningful roles as the story unfolds. Expect plenty of angst, soul-searching, and general emo-ness, but some happier, lighter moments as well. Also, I don't buy into the whole "all the parents in OMORI are horrible people" trope, so I tried to humanize them ... they're flawed but trying their best.
