    Summary

Ilya's worry was quiet, internal, and settled deep in his bones. It was every time Ekaterina got sick that Ilya would sleep on the floor of her room, just to be sure she was okay. If she was quiet for a few days, he hovered on the off chance she'd decide she needed one of them. When the crying went on just a little bit longer than what seemed normal, he was there. At the time, it was reactive — a trauma response of his own, maybe. Or an insatiable need to be the parent he'd had never had.

But when she got older, when bad days started to morph into something hauntingly familiar to what he'd grown accustomed to, when suddenly his medication bottles weren't the only ones on the kitchen counter and his darkness wasn't the only shadow hanging around the house — the fear inside of him only sharpened.

Having enough love for their Ekaterina had never been the problem, but knowing their love alone couldn't make whatever hurting she was going through stop, was.

Ilya Rozanov had learned, the hard way, what it meant to burn and take everything with you. He’d caught fire to Shane more times than he’d like to admit.

He will not let their daughter do the same.

    Summary

“... and Shane is so beautiful, Mama. Glows like morning sun. Bright, like you.”

    Shane stills.

His mind screams at him. You are invading his privacy! You are obviously not meant to be hearing this conversation between Ilya and his dead mother!

But Shane can’t move, not even if he wanted to. If his body remained frozen to this exact spot until the end of time, he wouldn’t even be surprised.

No – what surprises Shane most is hearing Ilya speak with such a gentleness, a reverence, and about him. Comparing Shane Hollander to Irina Rozanova.

Shane overhears a conversation he isn’t meant to between Ilya, his dead mother, and the vastness of a quiet, Canadian morning.

    Summary

Crowley has fought to protect London and its people for years as The Serpent, the hero with golden eyes who never sleeps. But when his nemesis, The Archangel, finally brings him to his knees, their battle ends not in violence, but in something much too close to mercy.

And mercy, in The Archangel’s hands, feels a lot like surrender.

“Are you familiar with Alpha Centauri?”

The voice on the other end of the line was gravelly, and it was clear to Aziraphale that this person had been crying for a long period of time, long before they ever picked up the phone.

OR Aziraphale is a suicide hotline worker, and Crowley is a distressed caller.
