He doesn’t doubt that. Actually, he thinks he has, too. “As we are usually to after a decade,” Violet reminds him, and maybe himself too.
“Eleven,” Pavel says suddenly.
Violet pauses there, watching his lips hide behind the cup he has suspended to his mouth, in the way a man looking for solitude goes very small in dark corners. “Pardon?” he asks.
“It’s been eleven years, Violet,” Pavel says, bitter as the snow cloaking outside. "Not ten."

He chuckles weakly through his nose, head lolling. “As if you don’t know me,” Violet says, low and guttural. Positioning himself the predator, even when tied up, bloody and married to dirt. “You saw me last night, didn’t you? Those dark shades under your eyes. But they make them pop,” he continues, a little like he’s in awe. “So much red against that darkness. Aren’t you still a pretty lad, hm?”

“Hm,” she says. “If all that is the case, perhaps we could get along. That sounds promising.”
