    Leo could hardly sleep before the invasion, so now it was even more of a problem. The idea that he could just close his eyes and drift off, as though images and memories were not waiting for him there in the dark. As though nightmares aren't going to plague him the moment he drifts into a fitful slumber. 

    It’s in these moments of wakefulness, late at night as he pads noiselessly through the lair, that he first hears it. 

    He hears the whimpering, the soft crying. 

    He hears Casey, who always jerks awake from whatever horrors infest his dreams, with the panicked yell of “Dad!” shouted into the night. 

    Leo hears this so many times that it makes his heart start to ache. It makes him wonder how terrible his father's death must have been- if Casey can’t even speak of it. It makes him wonder who this person was that Cassandra had a child with, who was such a good man that Casey cried out in the night for him.

    Or...

    Leo doesn't realize that he knows Casey's father.
