He sensed concern rising up beneath his fondness, barely concerned and heady, as though it had been there from the start. He stiffened and straightened up his spine, meeting Erik's gaze with a pointed one of his own.
Charles might allow Erik to coddle him in bed, to treat him like some kind precious gift, but not outside of it. Charles Xavier spent his entire childhood making himself exceedingly competent, exceptional, and he could not bear for Erik of all people to see him as anything less.
