At the end of every summer, your nomadic tribe hosts a Proposal ceremony for those of age; a ring is set up and a Proposer walks up to announce a name, to which the person who is called can accept or decline the Proposal. If accepted, the two are anointed with oil before facing each other in hand-to-hand combat. The Proposer must defeat the Proposee, proving to everyone that they are capable of protecting and providing for their new partner.
Last year was a fucking disaster for you. After throwing your Proposer flat on his back within seconds, nobody dared to Propose to you again, too intimidated or too scared to face the same fate.
