He's different now, since he woke up. A desperation that's always been there, suppressed, has come out now, and he expresses it in how tightly he lets his hands cling, in the raw tension in his face as he picks up a stick of charcoal and writes for hours and days--as long as he's allowed to--until his fingers and the charcoal become one and it seems as if the numbers he scribbles are his very self splayed and smeared across the room. Finger from charcoal, charcoal from blood. It gets hard to tell one from the other sometimes, and Ryuusui can't but watch, chessboard in hand, for hours sometimes as his brother pours himself into string after string of numbers.

He opened his eyes and crossed his arms under his chin. When he glanced over at Sai’s nightstand, though, something blue and gold caught his eye from the cracked-open drawer.
Was that what he thought it was? He reached over with a trembling hand and eased the drawer open, only to see a very familiar blue and gold knotted dildo. A bottle of lube named Buried Treasure was next to it—Ryusui remembered it from that stream as well.
