Summary
Blood. Too little and too covered to be from a victim. Which meant it was his.
It had been a week, and Alastor was still bleeding.“...Bambi," he started quietly, pointedly staring at the patch before flicking his eyes up to the deer’s face. “After everything we’ve been through together, can I ask you to be honest with me?"
Alastor’s ears went completely back and he straightened up, tensing like he was about to pull away but not completing the motion.
His eyes finally met Vox’s, defiant, but not angry. After a long, tense moment, he let out a soft huff, glanced away again, and gave a single nod.Vox lifted his other hand slowly, making sure he was being as obvious as he could be, and moved it in until he was brushing his fingers against the patch of blood- feather-light, but even with that he could tell it was still wet.
“Is there anything I can do?" He asked softly, squeezing his clasped hand again. “Will you let me help you?”---

Oddly enough, as he neared the kitchen, his sensors picked up an unexpected scent- they were nowhere near as helpful as an actual nose would be, but they were good enough for him to freeze in his tracks, because he recognized that smell.
Who the hell was making Jambalaya in his kitchen at eleven o’clock at night?
…something in his chest clenched, because for a long time, he hadn’t had to wonder who. He’d come home to that smell, or something similar, dozens of times over the years, always a surprise but never unwelcome. But now, after so long, he never thought he’d get it again.
Because the only one who would dare had disappeared seven years ago.
