It’s a tricky thing, love. It comes alive in so many different shapes and forms. Wears new clothes every time it visits, goes as far as using disguise to surprise you when you least expect it.
Eddie is familiar with love. It comes to him as a scratchcard game he discarded when he thought he had lost, because losing has always been a part of his life. He had never been a lucky man, except for that one time, years ago, when he won the jackpot, Christopher. Every ticket he got after that were always null, and it had never bothered him. He just kept on wishing one day he’ll be lucky enough to recreate the ecstatic joy of winning and having something valuable in the palm of his hand. Another palm, perhaps, as big as his. He could only dream of it.

Summary
Charles just wishes he could turn off the voices. They sometimes do, but it’s never thanks to him. He still doesn’t know the special trick. Max does. When he feels charitable, he plays a bit of magic on Charles. Does the trick when they’re alone in a dark room. It never works for too long, it’s just magic anyway, but it works enough for Charles to crave the next time it happens.
Or the one where Charles is sad and Max makes it his mission to comfort him.

If Charles were brave, he would act on it. He would invite the man in without fearing rejection, the reaction wouldn’t matter.
If they were something else, Max’s hand would be tenderly traveling against the other man's cheek, petting his skin as if it were water.
Unfortunately, they are just two men flirting with the limits of a relationship that barely is one to begin with.
