He always kind of thought that being a vampire would be sexy— bodice-ripping, hunky lothario stuff, all silver fox and debonair. Maybe have a couple of bodacious thralls in nightgowns swooning around him, a sick castle, a wardrobe in velvet and furs.
He should have known better. Now he was dead, and cold, and hungry.

A riversnake coursed by him now, where he crouched submerged among the reeds. In the shadows of the hummocked bank it was only a shimmer in the water – and so was he. Silent, secret. Hinata blinked his eyes once in the human way, and then blinked them again like a fish, the clear membrane of his third eyelid sliding sideways across his eye and then sliding back again. He was watching intently.
There was a young man standing in a clearing at the river’s edge.
Hinata is a rusalka, and Kageyama a bogatyr.

“You play volleyball?!” is the first thing that Hinata says, after.
You activate the release and crumple to the ground, limbs awkward in your orange and black drivesuit. Hinata tries to take a step towards you and stumbles, bracing himself with one arm against the machinery of his harness. You still see blue flashes with every blink of your eyes, and the world around you tilts and blurs. Your head is full of his memories.
