    “...are ya askin’ me to?” he drawled out the words one by one. Kiryu didn’t answer immediately. Majima saw him swallow.

    “I’m asking you what you want to do with yourself.”

    Asking Kiryu on a date is supposed to be a joke. It’s just another in Majima’s long list of contrived reasons for Kiryu to get mad enough at him to fight him.

    So he’s thrown for a loop when Kiryu doesn’t answer by punching him in the face, but by accepting.

    Obviously Kiryu’s playing along, just like he did with the bartender scheme, and with Goromi, and everything else. Majima can work with that. There’s no way he’ll crack before Kiryu does.

    Or: Majima commits to the bit so hard he ends up in a long-term relationship.
