"You're not really Sonic...are you?"

The hills around the town seemed to stretch for miles, the forest seeming to slither up them. Tails always had mixed feelings about the hills– feelings that ranged from childlike terror to utter joy at the memories made where they stood. Sonic always liked the hills regardless though, and that was enough for Tails.
And yet, now, after days of his brother not having come back from them, Tails doesn't know what to do. Worry grips his heart like a noose.
But everything is fine! He did come back. His brother finally did come back for him. Except, it doesn't feel like his brother. Everything is just an "almost" but never quite right.
His brother died in those hills. What came back was something parading around in his skin. And Tails seems to be the only one who notices.
