Summary
When Evan Buckley leaves Los Angeles on deployment, he doesn’t just walk away from the 118 — he leaves behind the people who taught him what home means.
Over two and a half years, distance reshapes everything: a child grows up, a house learns how to breathe around absence, and love is carried quietly through letters, memory, and waiting.
This is a story about war and return, about chosen family, and about coming back anyway.

Summary
“How did you get home from the hospital?”
“Took an uber.”
“Does Maddie know?” Silence. “Does anyone?” More silence. More of Buck refusing to meet his gaze, staring at the door like he thought he could entice Eddie to leave by the power of suggestion. Well, good fucking luck, Eddie thought. Wild horses, and all that. “Why didn’t you call anyone?” he demanded. “Why didn’t you call me?”
“I did!” Buck snarled. The momentum of his indignation carried him into a sitting position, and Eddie could see him flinch with the pain of it. His unnaturally stoic front was gone, and something raw and wrenching took its place; it occurred to Eddie that he’d never heard Buck raise his voice before. “I did call you, Eddie! As I was bleeding out on my kitchen floor. You. Didn’t. Answer.”
---
The squatter in Buck's attic has a knife. Buck has a bit of a breakdown. Eddie has a plan to make everything right.

Summary
All he wanted to do was jump over the wall that Eddie had put up, but he didn’t. He couldn’t, because if he got to the other side and finally saw what Eddie had been hiding from it, it might kill him, and that was one thing Buck would never let Eddie do.
He would let him end the life Buck had finally made meaning of. If Eddie Diaz wanted a wall, Buck would fucking give it to him.
or Buck is tired of being left by Eddie over and over. It's been 6 months since he came home and all he's done is yell and yell.

Summary
"Heading to the collapse site to find Buckley."
"Diaz, I said to regroup," Gerrard states firmly.
"All the disrespect in the world to you, I don't actually work for you and I'm not leaving Buck alone," Eddie heads down to the street level with Ravi on his tail.A canon divergence of sorts - Buck doesn't find out about Eddie's job offer before their shift. He finds out about it on shift right before the building collapse in Seismic Shifts; and because Buck has such great luck, he proceeds to get trapped in the building.
Injured and pinned, will the 118 (and Eddie) come to his rescue?
