Summary
This is the way the world works: the sun rises in the east. The strong come out on top. Bakugou Katsuki rockets through life like a comet and Midoriya Izuku stumbles after. If he believed in such things Katsuki would say it was written in the stars. That some god of war had looked at him and said this one. That he’d been passed along a line to get his blessings – genius, willpower, fearless ambition – and dropped off on earth.
Then, of course, there is the question of Deku. The spitfire runt. Deku, no matter what the world does to him, never stops hoping.
Until, of course, he eventually does.
(Katsuki broke him. Snapped him in half like a twig and now has to scramble to put Deku back together. “We can do this, Deku," he says slowly. "There are so many mysteries that never got put to bed. Criminals roaming around looking to hurt people and you and me, we can fix that.”
There’s a long pause. The comforter slips a little off Deku’s skinny shoulders and drowns him. “You mean like a team?”
In that split second, Katsuki makes a decision he’s never even considered. He swallows his pride. “Yeah, Deku. We’d be a team.”)

Haru stuck his tongue out at him, but Makoto sighed again, muttered out Sousuke’s name in a way that might have been low and inviting if it wasn’t for the way Haru was laughing behind him. The ex-swimmer felt a little bubble of dread build in his stomach as Haru’s laughter became louder and louder. I’m going to kill Rin for this, he thought absently.

If Sousuke had realized that dating Makoto would mean becoming Haru’s part-time babysitter he would have thought twice about asking the broad shouldered, doe-eyed, fucking gorgeous and sweet and ridiculously amazing brown haired swimmer out on a date. He probably still would have asked the brown haired boy out for coffee, but that was because Makoto was the reason puppies wagged their tails. Nonetheless, however, he would have liked the chance to decide if his boyfriend was really worth standing knee deep in a public pool as he shouted at the top of his lungs while Haru sat at the deep end of the pool, holding his breath in an attempt to avoid doing more push-ups.

Matsuoka Rin was an abrasive asshole with a habit of sneaking off campus in the middle of the night, ignoring everyone around him, and crying when he thought nobody was looking. He was also smart, organized, sentimental, athletically gifted, unintentionally hilarious, and occasionally thoughtful when he wasn't actively trying to destroy himself.

Makoto, being used to this sort of intrusion, sighs and bookmarks the page in his textbook before looking up at Haru with a patient smile. “He is—he is leaving me food and notes about how he watered my plants the other day just ‘because they looked a little thirsty’ and books about swimming and he is being too nice, Makoto.”
