He really, really does.
But there just comes a point, you break. And he is so incredibly tired, of being strong. So incredibly tired of keeping it together. “Shush,” but he’s crying too, overwhelmed, trying to keep the little boy in his arms quiet, holding him against his chest.
“Apa,” his baby gurgles, burying against his chest, and Ten has to squeeze his eyes shut, pressing him close, holding him tight, trying to not let go again.
“I know,” he whispers, so, so alone, “me too, baby, me too.”
(Or; where Ten escapes the bustling light of the city, arms too full with a grief worth dying for. )

Never gone, for it is impossible, but jailed and locked; restrained enough that they do not finish the damage they have already done, the damage seen still, all around them, in harsh colds and excruciating heat, barren land and polluted water, poisonous air and thin wood.
