    Peter should’ve known better than to mess with the multiverse. Dr. Strange had made everyone forget who he was and he still looked for trouble. He should have just walked away once he heard it was a multidimensional teleporter, but people were in danger and he had to help. He should have been less reckless, he wouldn’t be in this situation otherwise.

    The situation being transported to a whole new universe where giant metal aliens landed on Earth centuries ago. And now they, and another group, were out to get him.

    Anne thought she knew fear, when she hitchhiked away from the only home she ever knew, to set off on a journey most kids her age could only dream of. She thought she knew fear, when she snuck aboard that strange little boat as the sailors started loading their cargo, stepping over oyster shells and puddles of brine to tuck herself between stacks of damp, musty-smelling boxes. Surrounded on all sides by lapping waves, bottomless ocean, and sitting quite literally under the feet of a pack of strangers with the power to do some real, genuine harm. Only having the letter, her knife, and the thrill of adventure in her heart to soothe her nerves.

    She thought that was scary enough.

    Being discovered by that terrifying captain, chased by hungry sharks while trying to escape, and held captive by a giant invisible sea monster the passengers kept calling a 'stand' was decidedly worse.

    At least the weirdo passengers turned out to be good guys in the end.

    (Or, the tale of the Stardust Crusaders, told from the perspective of a random little girl they accidentally picked up in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.)
