    Arthur gestured to a spot on the table behind him. “What’s that, then?”

    Merlin slowly twisted around to see what he was pointing at, dread curling in his gut. Primly placed on the tabletop was a bouquet of red roses.

    “Er, someone else must have left them there. I have no idea where they came from,” Merlin lied awkwardly.

    As if on cue, a rose fell out of his jacket pocket and Merlin's stomach dropped a thousand feet beneath the ground.

    Red’s left hand rushed up to cover his smile, effectively hiding it from sight.
    “It’s not a crime to smile, you know,” Blue said, but made no effort to push that hand away. Red had a nice smile, it was a drag that he was so shy. “So what do you say? We build up entirely new teams to take back with us to Kanto?”
    Red nodded, still covering his mouth. He looked ecstatic.

    Red clearly knew he had Blue beat, but appreciated the goofy challenge anyway, before nodding enthusiastically in a way that said ‘I’d like to see you try!’ and ‘game on!’ without moving his lips.
