He appeared behind my dad with a kind of timid awkwardness. I returned his polite bow with a look full of irritation and some kind of smug superiority. I swear I had zero manners back then.
That day, it was damp from the rain, and Sangyeop clearly hadn’t brought an umbrella. His hair clumped together, dripping wet, making his head look like some muddy potato that hadn’t been washed properly. And that thin jacket-purple mixed with green-an absolute eyesore.
Slung over his back was one of those long tubes art students carry around, the kind that usually holds giant sheets of drawing paper. In his hands he was lugging a pile of transparent plastic boxes stuffed with all sorts of paint and brushes in different materials, all of them downright ancient.
I shrugged and shot a murderous look past my dad at the person behind him. I didn’t want to be bothered. Keep all those stupid artsy games among yourselves. I tried to communicate with my eyes and hoped he’d get the message. But Sangyeop just stared at me wide-eyed, offering absolutely nothing back. Those dark eyes of his looked like black marbles, except their surface felt weirdly fragile. What I mean is, this guy had no clue what I was feeling.

"If I were Sangyeop, maybe it’d be much better. Even though you speak harshly, you’re really perceptive and know how to care for others." Yechan’s voice was clear, as if he was laughing. "If I were a girl, I’d probably like Sangyeop too."
"Even if I were a guy…" Yechan filled the silence again with a half-finished thought.
Yechan stopped muttering, limping to the wardrobe, grabbed some clothes, and hobbled into the bathroom, closing the door. The sound of the shower running started. Sangyeop stayed still, drawing messy circles at the corner of his chemistry textbook.
