The conversations stretched longer than Derek meant them to.
They kept looping—one topic into another, into something completely random—and somehow, he never got tired of it. If anything, the longer Avery talked, the worse it got.
Worse, as in…Derek could feel himself slipping.
Not in a bad way.Just—deeper.
Into this.
Into him.
At some point, Avery went, “Wait, wait—get on Minecraft. I’m bored again.”
Derek huffed softly. “You’ve been bored this entire call.”
“And whose fault is that?” Avery shot back.
“You agreed to call me. Now deal with the consequences.”
“…You’re insufferable.”
“And you like it.”
Derek didn’t answer that.
Because he did.

Here he was, begging for something almost impossible. “Please, I…” He couldn’t even speak anymore, he was too caught up sobbing about this man he’d never met. His head in his hands as he broke down for the first time since what happened.
