Summary
Lily Evans moved to a hot, cramped, architecturally suspect building in Diagon Alley to live with Sirius Black and Marlene McKinnon for the summer for two reasons: she needed to complete her uni lab internship, and the alternative was seeing her sister for three months. She did not move here to:
a. illegally smuggle horrid floral couches at the behest of her idiot of a flatmate
b. drunkenly snog a mysterious man at a bar whose name she doesn’t know
c. begin a (surprisingly interesting) email relationship with this man
d. go insane when her idiot of a flatmate’s brother decides his summer off football would be perfectly spent living in their flat

Summary
Lily has watched him do this multiple times before and it’s just tea and it’s just James and there should be nothing special about this particular moment, except that the sight of him, the fact of him, is suddenly earth-shattering.
Something like nostalgia fills her in a flood, only it’s the future she’s longing for, a future she can see with absolute clarity. The features James inherited from his parents are so faithfully recreated on him that it’s easy to imagine him at their age, with a shock of white, still unfairly thick hair framing a face lined by a lifetime of laughter, making her a cup of tea exactly the way she likes it and smiling as she teases him.
I’m going to spend the rest of my life with this man.

Part of her still wants to storm out and away from him, another part wants to smack that smirk off his face, and a third very secret part that should never have existed in the first place can’t stop thinking about that photo, about her mouth on his, about his long fingers rucking up the hem of her shirt.
If she leaves now, she reasons, he’ll have gotten the last say, and that’d be absolutely no fair.
So she stalks over, plants her hands on her hips, and looks up at him. “Alright, new deal,” she says. “One kiss — one real kiss — and then you get it out of your system.”
(Spoiler alert: Neither of them gets anything out of their system.)
