Her eyes drift between her options—the blinding sun she isn’t sure she could stand to feel on her skin, the hanged man that promised they’d never meet again—and they land on the last two, her two comforts that she’s lost more times than she can count. Sometimes, one stayed with her; others, she lost them both in the most brutal ways possible.
“Your heart’s conflicted,” he murmurs, two of the cards vanishing with a flourish. “You don’t have to choose between them, if you don’t want to.” He holds the two that remain out to her, face up. Strength and justice: the vice commander and the inquisitor, Crius and Tyril.
She reaches out, and takes both.
