Summary
Heartbroken but understanding his and Kaede's romantic relationship can't continue due to struggling realizations of Kaede's sexual orientation, Saihara Shuichi, is 16 years old in his second year of high school when he and Kaede broke up.
He knows that, with time, time will heal his heart and he and Kaede can continue to resort back to being best friends, this time, with more mutual understanding.
But until then, he'll have to deal with interacting with an enigma of a customer at his 711 job, Ouma Kokichi.

Turning to the evidence he’s hiding, Kokichi blew a playful kiss to the horse-masked Rantaro effigy to energize himself to do an act.
‘I’ll be back soon, Amami.’
After making a two-finger salute, Kokichi let go of the rope hidden by weeds sporting inside the academy and exaggeratingly stride out from behind the pony wall, beginning to say.
“Well, hello, fellow early bird!–”
Kokichi faltered to a stop, his features going automatically blank to cover his disbelief.
The person who came out of the girl's bathroom was no one other than the Ultimate Detective himself, Shuichi, who was looking back at him with surprise in his sweaty weary state, wearing a white T-shirt and black plaid pajama pants.
The two stayed in silence for a moment, staring at each other.

In which Kokichi has a complicated morning trying to sneak a Rantaro effigy into his dorm. Gets even more complicated when he comes across a suffering Shuichi who unfortunately got his period, during a killing game. -

“You're going to resurrect someone... just to kill them all over again?” Maki frowns. “That’s a stupid plan. That would still make one of us the blackened, so we’ll still lose another classmate.”
“Not if they decide to kill themselves of their own volition! After all, they will be guided by God’s will to atone for their sins. Angie will make sure of that!”
“Out of curiosity, who are you planning to resurrect?” Kaede asks.
“After discussing the matter with God, the student council has decided to resurrect the one who put this killing game into motion, and has thus placed the burden of murder on our classmates. He has many sins to atone for. Tomorrow, let us welcome the return of Shuichi Saihara, the one responsible for the death of Rantaro Amami.”

Shuichi takes the fall for Rantaro’s murder and becomes a virtual ghost. Unfortunately, the dead never stay dead in this killing game.
