Determination and an iron will to not just survive, but to thrive. The board is stacked against them, but Ellery Courin never flinches. Her voice, her quick rapier; all of it carries them inexorably forward, despite complaints and moments of weakness and flat-out exhaustion. Ellery carries them through. Sometimes it is gentle, sometimes she cajoles and pokes and prods, and one memorable time wrestled Lae’zel into submission when the Githyanki got a little too mouthy.

    Little wonder they’re all half in love with her.
