The Convict is written and treated as a specific canon character, going off of the lines they say when interacting with objects and such (unfortunately, tvtropes is the only place you can find the good quotes as of right now). Not the same as the Expendables as that label applies to all EXR-P. (I think they're pretty underused and underappreciated as a character themselves))(this fic is only broken into chapters because i don't want to sic a 1 chapter 10k on anyone. the master doc is not written in chapters, treat every snippet like its its own chapter and also do not use this as an excuse to read this all in one go at 4AM i will find you.)

At the limit, he would even be ready to leave behind all the work he's put so much heart into. So what’s really keeping him there?
Despite his conflicted feelings, Medkit cares enough about his colleague, Subspace, not to leave him. If he left, Subspace would despise him, rightfully so. And without Subspace, Medkit would be all alone out there.
Subspace is satisfied with what he has: a plan to achieve greatness and a hardworking coworker by his side. He never did put effort into becoming any closer than colleagues with Medkit, he didn't see the need for it.
Unfortunately, you never really see what you have until you run the risk of losing it. -
