    As a part of the newly-signed peace treaty between the Listeners and Dalinar Kholin, Navani has arranged a causal betrothal between a Listener and an Alethi brightlord. At least, that's what the Alethi think is going on. Eshonai and the Listeners, on the other hand, believe that they have arranged for an exchange of envoys between their two peoples. Rlain, the former Listener spy, is nominated by them to act as their envoy to the Alethi. Meanwhile, the Alethi highprinces take their chance to punish Dalinar Kholin by forcing his younger son into the betrothal. What happens next is complicated by a lack of knowledge on both sides, Rlain and Renarin's growing feelings towards each other, and a certain scheming highprince.
