“Why did you back out back then? Why did you say the things you said?”
This was the only thing that didn’t make sense even knowing the full truth, and apparently Stan had to think before answering as well. He bit his lower lip and looked down at the floor, then back at Kyle.
“Because I loved you,” he finally said.
Three years. It had been that long since Kyle and Stan last saw each other, and now a single Christmas dinner would be their undoing.
