A professional kept his heart locked away safely. Someone of such high status and power, carrying the title of the knave with such ease, did not care for childish concerns like romantic attraction.
Perhaps that was why Father refused to step down and let Lyney take the stance. Perhaps he wasn’t as unconcerned as he pretended to be; for everyone’s, including his own sake.
Living a life of carefully webbed lies was easy when everything went as the young man predicted. But of course, with an Outlander that concerned even the heavenly principles, he wouldn’t get that. Instead, he’d receive a juicy smack on his face into reality.
