Summary
If anyone asked her the next day why Wumuti should dictate whether or not she could use the restroom when she was a fully grown adult, she would not be able to give them a straight answer.
Wumuti was very sweet, but there was something about her gaze and her tone that just made people want to do as they were told. Rui wasn’t even sure if it would be in fear of her disappointment or of some kind of punishment.

He had been shouting encouragement into the mic, even dancing along a bit to the opening lines of the Mantra dance challenge, but now he just can't stop staring at his leader. The way Wumuti's skirt flares as she twists and shakes her ass, the way her torso flexes with every move... Heat pools in Rui’s stomach as his eyes trace that silver waist chain. Haru glanced up to find Wumuti tilting his head at him, the red tassels in his shiny dark hair swaying.
“You’re fidgeting a lot,” Wumuti continued, “like a naughty little fox. Something on your mind?”
If Haru truly were a fox, his ears would be pinned back against his head. He had no idea how long Wumuti had been watching his internal struggle; what kind of faces he’d been making, given the nature of his thoughts.
In the winter of Haru’s nineteenth birthday, the seedling Wumuti had planted in his heart grew a new leaf.

When he cut up fruit for himself, making a second portion for Haru without even asking and Hyun pouted at being excluded, Wumuti explained, laughing, “Haru’s just a baby, he needs Mommy to look after him.” When he fed the sugary, sticky pieces off his own plate past Haru’s lips with his bare hands and Rui side-eyed the way they held eye contact with each other as he did, Wumuti explained, chuckling nervously, “Eomma needs to make sure he has energy for our schedules today.”
