“I’m sorry,” Finana rasped. “You don’t deserve that.”
Selen laughed, but just the action of it. Her shoulders rolled, her mouth opened, her teeth shone like shards of the moon. There was no humor in it. “If everything we got in life was something deserved,” Selen said, now serious, “then I don’t know how love exists.”
“Love doesn’t need to be earned.” Finana said confusedly, and Selen said nothing until Finana’s jaw tightened and the other shoe dropped.
“Do whatever you want,” Selen reached out to take Finana’s hand, ignoring how it was damp and covered in sand. “But you balancing whatever the fuck you are doing with Pomu and Elira is tearing you apart, and you definitely don’t deserve that.”
Finana stood up suddenly, and stomped off into the waves, and did not reappear until the sun’s light trickled down to the dark, dark place she found herself in.
