Summary
Akira looks over, and meets Ryuji’s eyes. Afternoon sunlight dances in his eyes like reflections in a pool.
“Hi,” he says.
“Uh. Hi.”
Akira doesn’t say anything else. He just sits there and looks at Ryuji - Ryuji can see his eyes dart here and there, taking in all of Ryuji’s face. God, his expression looks so soft it makes Ryuji’s chest ache - brows slanted, eyes warm, the faintest smile forming.
Ryuji shifts his hand on the box of chocolates. This is it, man. Now or never.

It must be accidental, but Ryuji's brain is scrambled eggs, and that tiny touch alone feels like electricity, like the static that courses through him when he fires off a Zionga. It must be accidental, but it makes no difference. His whole body burns.

“Can I tell you something?” Akira whispers, voice low. He’s so close that Ryuji can feel his breath ghosting warm across his skin.
Ryuji swallows hard around the lump in his throat. “Y-yeah, of course, dude.”
Akira finally breaks eye contact, this time glancing away from Ryuji. He might be blushing now, too, but he’s a little bit sunburnt and it’s dark in the room, so it’s impossible to say for sure.
“I think I’d like to kiss you,” he says, so quiet that Ryuji almost doesn’t hear it over the sound of his pulse in his ears.

On the school trip, Ryuji's roommate invites a girl to the room. So Ryuji crashes with Akira for the night. Unfortunately, there's only one bed. -

Summary
It must be the dreamy, sappy atmosphere inherent to weddings that’s getting to her. She doesn’t know why else her heart would be in her throat like it is, or why her palms would be sweating where they’re resting on Ryuji’s shoulders. There’s no reason for her to feel like someone set a hundred butterflies loose in her chest. Although, now that she’s thought about her sweaty palms resting there on Ryuji’s shoulders, she becomes hyper-aware of every movement he makes, and how she can feel the muscles in his shoulders move beneath her hands. Her palms sweat more, her ears go warm and red.
Ryuji finally turns to look at her rather than the other couples on the dance floor, and her stomach drops to her feet. She looks away as soon as he looks over to her, unable to meet his gaze.

Summary
The first thing he notices when he wakes up is that he is not, in fact, drowning to death in the ocean of Shido’s cognitive world. The grass he’s laying in is a bit damp with dewdrops, but that’s about as close as he's coming to that vast, rolling water he’d seen below him before.
He lays there unmoving for a moment, as feeling comes back to all of his limbs. His head is throbbing, his ears and ringing, and his whole body aches as he sits up. Groggily, and a bit confused, he takes in his surroundings.
He’s on the grass in front of the Diet building. Everything seems normal, so this must be reality. He made it out of Shido’s palace. At least, he thinks so. It’s also possible he died and is in heaven or something - though if this is what heaven’s like then he’s got a bone to pick with whoever’s in charge, because this sucks.
He staggers to his feet, brushing himself off as best he can. Man, he feels like he just got hit by a truck. His limbs are heavy; all he wants is to lay down in his own bed and sleep for a year. More important than that, though - where is everyone else?

Ryuji saves his team from a watery grave in Shido's Palace, and gets a proper welcome back.
