Stripped down to his core, with his conscious mind starting to drift away, his shoes drag small circles on the wood beneath him. They repeat the motion again and again, pressing down at the same spots until the floor starts to feel softer under his feet, until maybe it becomes a patch of brown dirt that’s safe to stand on.
